Starting out as a student in Milan with the Nexus Group, gaining my first professional experience in Lugano, and discovering new perspectives during a stay in Winterthur: my journey so far has not only taught me a great deal professionally, but has also shown me the direction I want my career to take.
When I joined the Nexus Group in 2023, I was in the middle of my bachelor's degree in Milan. At the time, I wasn't entirely sure which career path I wanted to pursue.
My initial tasks with the team in Lugano consisted mainly of customer care and basic accounting work. Today, I work as an accountant, managing tasks and client relationships with increasing independence, and I am already preparing for my next step within the Nexus Group: starting in February 2027, after completing my studies, I will be working as a Junior Consultant in Geneva.
In between lie numerous experiences, new challenges, and encounters that have shaped my personal and professional development.
My first steps in accounting
Joining the Nexus Group was one of my first real insights into the professional world.
At the beginning, I focused primarily on customer support and basic accounting tasks. Over time, more activities and responsibilities were added.
Today, my work includes the independent review of accounts, handling VAT issues, and preparing annual financial statements.
My level of independence has changed the most. While I needed a lot of support at the start, I can now organize numerous tasks on my own and handle them in direct contact with our clients.
This development would not have been possible without the support of my colleagues. Mariangela and Samuele in particular have taught me a great deal and provided me with excellent opportunities to develop my professional skills.
Learning from different people
During my time in Lugano, there were also several major personnel changes within the team.
Such changes can be challenging at first. However, for me, they also had a positive side: I had the opportunity to work with different people and learn from their respective experiences and ways of working.
Every person brings different knowledge and perspectives. Especially at the beginning of my career, it was particularly valuable for me to be able to benefit from this diverse knowledge.
This allowed me not only to expand my professional skills but also to learn how to adapt to new situations and different working styles.
Three months in Winterthur – a special experience
One of the most formative experiences of my time at the Nexus Group so far was my three-month assignment at the headquarters in Winterthur.
For me, it was a special opportunity to get to know everyday work life outside of my usual team in Lugano and to make new contacts within the group.
At the same time, I was able to improve my German skills. My colleagues supported me in everyday life, and thanks to an idea from Balint, I was also given the opportunity to take a German course, which was partially funded by the Nexus Group.
This experience showed me that professional development consists of more than just new tasks and technical knowledge.
Exchanging ideas with people from other teams, learning a new language, and working in a new environment can also make a significant contribution to personal development.
For me, the three months in Winterthur were therefore much more than just a temporary change of workplace.
A new perspective in Geneva
My next big step is already on the horizon.
Some time ago, I had the opportunity to speak with Bastien, the manager of our Geneva office. That conversation led to the possibility of moving to Geneva as a Junior Consultant after completing my studies.
It is set to happen in February 2027.
For me, this is an important milestone. I can take on a new role within the same group of companies, work at a different location, and continue my professional development in a new direction.
When I started in Lugano in 2023, I could hardly have imagined that such opportunities would arise within just a few years.
I am all the more excited to gain new experiences, take on additional responsibility, and continue my professional growth.
More than just a first job
Looking back, my time at the Nexus Group has had a major influence on how I view my professional future.
When I started, I was a bachelor's student in Milan who didn't yet know exactly which area of business I wanted to specialize in later on.
Through practical work, the various tasks, and the people I had the privilege of working with, it became increasingly clear to me which professional goals I wanted to pursue.
The Nexus Group not only gave me the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge from my studies in practice, but it also helped me to better understand my interests and develop a clearer vision for my professional future.
What I particularly appreciate about the Nexus Group
There are several reasons why I am happy to continue my career path within the Nexus Group.
First and foremost is the opportunity to constantly learn. New tasks and challenges ensure that I can continue to develop professionally.
Added to this are the flexibility at work and, above all, the people.
I haven't worked at many other companies yet, but I can say that I truly value the positive atmosphere and the motivating work environment at Nexus.
I feel encouraged to contribute, ask questions, take on responsibility, and embrace new challenges.
It is precisely this combination that makes the Nexus Group such an exciting employer for me.
Open to new challenges
A new chapter is about to begin for me with my upcoming move to Geneva.
I look forward to gaining more experience as a Junior Consultant, taking on new responsibilities, and expanding my knowledge.
I don't have a fixed end goal in mind. It is much more important to me to remain open to new opportunities and to continue developing both professionally and personally.
When I look back on my time at the Nexus Group so far, that is the most important takeaway: at the start of your career, you don't need to know exactly where your path will lead.
Sometimes it is enough to stay curious, seize opportunities, and be ready to learn new things.
My journey so far has taken me from Lugano to Winterthur and now to Geneva – and I am excited to see what other opportunities the future holds.
